FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

The Redgum Challenge will be held at the pony club grounds (Wimmera Hwy) right next to the racecourse on the outskirts of Edenhope, Vic. This event is run by the Edenhope Adult Riding Club.

Open is for riders that have won a Novice/Intermediate section of a challenge.

Novice is for riders that have won or regularly placed in an Encourage but not an Open section of a challenge.

Encourage is for riders that have never won any senior section of a challenge.

Junior is for riders under 16 years of age on the first day of competition.

Gumnuts is for riders under 13 who are on a lead or riding independently but without the experience to be competitive in the Junior section.

The pony club grounds have beautiful free camping with plenty of trees. You are welcome to set up your own yards (solid or hot tape) or hire pony or horse yards for $5/night. There are toilets and rain & bore water, but no showers and no power. Showers are available at the Edenhope Racecourse for a small charge. Campers are welcome to arrive Friday (please note no. 16 of the Rules and Conditions outlined in the PROGRAM tab.).

There will be catering provided all weekend, BYO alcohol.

There will be a three-course roast meal and entertainment provided Saturday night at the Redgum Lodge at the pony club grounds. Please indicate on the entry form if you will be attending the tea.

Competitors please note that this event does not offer Personal Accident and Injury Insurance, however this can be purchased by individuals on line at www.ridesafe.com.au.

All entries will require a Property Identification Code (PIC) of the land where the horse travels from to get to the event. It is a requirement by law for all horse owners in SA and Vic to have a PIC for the land where their horse/s are homed. If your horse is agisted, the owner of the land should have a PIC number which you would use for event entries. This is to enable the authorities to quickly and efficiently manage the movement of horses in the event of a disease outbreak.

We have provided the images below to give you a summary of Property Identification Codes, but please go to your relevent state website for full information.

Please check back closer to the date, for any changes made to the weekend's events.

It would be appreciated if you could support and thank our sponsoring businesses where possible as this event wouldn't run without them. You can find a full list of Redgum sponsors on the Home page.

Thankyou and we look forward to seeing you there!

The Gumnuts will be running again this year for the little tackers.

The Gumnuts Class will be held only on the Sunday, which is the second day of the main competition. After checking in with the Event Secretary upon arrival, entrants will need to be ready for a 9am start, mounted with a pony holder or unmounted at first, as you will all walk the course as a group. We hope all the Gumnuts can stay to participate in the closing ceremony, where there will be a small presentation to each participating rider. The closing ceremony will take place once all classes for the weekend have finished.

Who would this class suit?

It is a non-competitive class for young riders who may be riding ponies on leads or riding independently but without the experience to participate in the current Junior class. There is no minimum age for this class, but riders must be under thirteen years of age. We would also like to make it clear that riders under the age of 13, whom are confident enough to enter the Junior Class, are encouraged to do so. Just because a rider is under 13 does not mean they have to enter in the Gumnuts Class.

While the Apsley Pony Club is running the Gumnuts, riders do not have to be a pony club member to participate.

What should we expect?

The Gumnuts class is run by the Apsley Pony Club and will be held in a small well-fenced arena where riders can feel safe and confident to ride independently or on a lead. Parents and guardians are welcome to enter the arena if desired, although we will have a member of the pony club there to help riders also.

The program will consist of just two elements. The first element will be a simplified version of the dry pattern and the second will be an obstacle course. Both elements will be explained in detail with assistance available at all times, so no experience is required as riders will be helped through the course and not formally judged, but there will be ribbons!

What do we wear?

An approved and current helmet and safe riding boots. Other than that there is no set requirement for dress.  Adult riders competing over the weekend will wear jeans and a long sleeved buttoned shirt, which is ideal, although Gumnuts may prefer to wear Pony Club uniform or other clothing of their choice. There are also no requirements for saddlery but it does need to be in safe working order. Check the Pony Club website for further guidance on gear safety.

How to enter?

Go to www.eventsecretary.com.au and select Redgum Challenge Edenhope from the list of events under the equine section. Enter in your details and select Gumnuts from the dropdown list of available classes.

Entry to the Gumnuts class is $15.

The Tri Challenge Champion 2019

This prestigious award will be presented to the horse and rider combination who accumulates the most points over the following three challenges:

the Moot Yang Gunya Stockman's Challenge held at the Mundulla Show, S.A. on the first weekend in March.

The Balmoral Horsemanship Challenge held at the Balmoral Show, Vic. on the third Saturday of March.

And culminating in the Redgum Challenge Edenhope held at the pony club grounds in Edenhope, Vic. on April 13th - 14th.

Previous winners of this award are Lindsay Cadzow, Barry Murphy, Katie Stock and Meg Ross. All South Australians, so come on you Victorians!

The entry forms for these challenges will be released in the new year and will be posted on the Redgum Challenge facebook page for people to access. This award is open to all riders of any age, in any class.

There is no registration fee, you just need to select your eligibility for the TCC on your Redgum entry and your scores from all three challenges will be calculated.

We welcomed a new sponsor for the TCC in 2018 - The Tack Room of Mt. Gambier very generously donated a quality leather bridle and reins to the Champion who was also presented with an embroidered rug, a beautiful redgum trophy and their name and their horse's name engraved onto the perpetual trophy.

It is uncertain at this time as to whether the Tri Challenge Champioin will be awarded in 2019 after the Mundulla challenge needed to be cancelled due to adverse weather conditions. This page, and the Facebook page will be updated with an announcement once Mundulla have decided on a new date for their challenge.

The 2019 Tri Challenge Champion is very proudly sponsored by:

The Balmoral P&A Society

The Redgum Challenge Edenhope and

The Tack Room, Mt. Gambier.

If any businesses are interested in receiving the naming rights of the Tri Challenge Champion series, including the extensive marketing exposure over two states, the Redgum Crew is more than willing to discuss some corporate sponsorship. Please email us at redgumchallenge@hotmail.com.

Finally, a HUGE thankyou to all the helpers who volunteered their time to pencil or timekeep or marshall or jump judge and the families of riding club members who all chipped in to make this event the huge success it was.

Saturday night will be a three course meal at the Redgum Lodge starting approximately 6:30pm. Meal tickets can be purchased at the canteen on Saturday for $20 for adults and $10 for kids under 10, although pre purchased meals on your entry form would be appreciated.

Following the meal, there will be a vet and a farrier talking about common lamenesses in horses and treatments.

There will be music and non-alcoholic drinks avaliable to be purchased until lateish.

We are introducing a new segment on the Sunday called the Gumnuts. This is a non-competitive class for budding young riders who may be on ponies on leads or riding independently but without the experience to be competitive in the Junior class. There is no minimum age for this class, but riders must be under 13 years old. Youngsters of this age don't have to go in the Gumnuts, they are quite welcome to compete in the Junior class if they wish.

The Gumnuts will do a simplified version of the Dry Pattern and the Obstacle Course in the safety of a fully enclosed arena. They will be helped through the course and not judged, but there will be ribbons! For more information, please click on the icon to the left.
